In residential construction, accessible – or at least low-barrier – building is becoming increasingly important. The DIN 18040-2 standard sets out requirements for accessible flats and bathrooms. Whilst not every flat needs to be fully wheelchair-accessible, forward-thinking planning is often implemented – for example, by providing pre-installed fixing points for Grab rails or ensuring sufficient space for movement. In the long term, this enhances the usability and value of the property.
